Wendy and I went out for a short ride on the BMW tonight.
First, I decided it was time to roll the odometer over to 177,771 miles. That took about 200 yards. I rode down to the end of the drive to the west, and it *almost* rolled over, so I started to turn around to go back to the garage to disconnect the odometer (with the intent to replace it with a new, zero-mile odometer), and I dumped the bike for the first time. I was turning around to the left, and made the mistake of grabbing the clutch. Set her down neatly on the LH valve cover skidplate, and stepped off the left side of the bike. *DOH*
I was *really* worried that I’d have a hell of a time getting the bike back up, but for a 400 pound bike, it was pretty easy. Lefty on the bars, Righty on the luggage rack, count to three, and ‘voop’, right back up on the black bits. *flex*
Back to the garage, disconnected the speedo, taped the cable to the front frame, then tried to get the tach off with no luck.
Wendy came out around then, and we suited up and went for my first real ride, ever.
It was good, save the bugs (that sting a bit at 25-30 MPH) and the touch of rain that we got just before we got home.
I think I like this motorcycle thing…
