Tip of the day – don't throw away that old USB Hub!
As many of you may have experienced – USB Hubs are pron to failing on the data side of the ports, especially if you live in some of the more dryer climate areas (like Colorado) and have to contend with static eletricity all the time. Static will kill a USB Hub and fry whatever is in there that lets it transfer data.
However: It does not seem to affect the "power" output of thing. During and after a shoots – I always have my GoPro cameras laying all over the place plugged in to various different machines' USB ports to recharge them.
Digging around today looking for, yet another USB cable, I ran across an old 7 Port USB Hub that I tossed into a drawer a while back.
"Hmmm… Will it still power a device, what about charge one (or seven)?" Ah ha, it did – and now I have a 7 output charger that only needs a one wall socket to work!
Something so simple…
