Meg started out at 5’8″ and around 190 or so when I met her…a size 10 or 12.
She gained a bunch of weight that was partially related to Gastro-Pareisis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Hyperinsulinemia (her body was producing plenty of insulin, but the insulin wasn’t bonding properly to the glucose molecules – so her body would produce MORE insulin… When they finally diagnosed the mysterious weight gain, her insulin levels were 17 times “normal”.)
She got on the scale one morning, and it looked back at her and said, “Wow, you weigh 251 pounds, Chick, please get off me, you’re hurting my back…now go put on those size 18s and get your butt to work…”
We started Weight Watchers the 16th of February, 2003. By the time she down went to Texas to see her parents for Christmas (after somehow managing to dodge them for a whole year – including her mother INSISTING they have lunch when she was in town for a conference), she was 170 pounds flat.
Her own *mother* didn’t recognize her when she got off the plane…until she was about 3′ away or so…
I saw her 3 days before she moved to Austin for a new job last spring, and she looked *GREAT*…better than she used to – and even more like Kate Winslet than she ever did. 🙂
OMG I cannot believe she got that high. Then taking off – that sure is an accomplishment.
So she’s in Austin now? Are you aware that’s where I’m from? Well, born in San Antonio, but Dad’s family is all Austin area. In fact, my father’s father was LBJ’s best bud. Mom’s half is all from mid-Indiana.
Okay, per the calculations you gave me, I need to aim for 27 points (want to lose 50 pounds, that’s 2 increments of 2 points each). Is that right? Starting at 31 points target?
I know Tuesday was bad because there were 5 cookies that had to be eaten so they’d be out of here! But Tuesday I was at 43 points (damned cookies – without them I would have been 24 points). Yesterday was 27, and so was today. So, without really trying to do anything different except write everything down, I’m at the plan target. Since that’s what caused the weight GAIN, any suggestions? LOL
And if I go just calories, the three days are 1785, 1096, and 1106.
By the by, since this is filtered for just you and I, my weight on Tuesday was 195, with the target being 145. Only yesterday I was at 198, and today 202. I’m only trying to get a baseline here, I’ll be backing off and weighing only weekly I think. But jeezo-pete, this is crap!!!
I actually weigh myself every day…but, unlike most people I refuse to stress out over it, because I know that there are a lot of factors in a daily weight, ranging from water retention (drinking MORE water helps you retain less, believe it or not…Meg would drink 84 ounces of water in a day sometimes, but averaged around 60…and I find I lose weight faster when I tank up a 12 ounce glass at least 4 times while I’m sitting here at the computer in the evenings…) to simply the weight of the food you ate yesterday…
The actual Weight-Watchers program also incorporates 35 “Flex Points” per week. These are 35 bonus points that you can spend as you please on a weekly basis.
I always spread them out as an even 5 extra points per day…if I came in under that limit, I was cool.
IIRC, at just over 200 pounds, I could do 31 points…when I started, I was at 33…that’s with the 5 bonus.
I think they also changed the scale slightly (and the name from “Winning Points” to “Flex Points” since what was listed in that Patent document…which would account for my different accounting of Fat and Fiber than what’s listed…and that would also account for my difference in ‘base points’, too, I think.
Anyway, I think you’d be safe with 29 total points per day (24 base + 5 daily Flex) next week.
Don’t feel bad about the cookies, you still have 10 Flex Points left over the next 4 days…
So, if you stick to 26/27 points the rest of the week, you’ll be golden… 🙂
