My partner in crime, +Audrey Lee, saw an article yesterday on +The Verge that said that the RIAA has changed how they're counting "sales" for new releases in the first 30 days.
The MILLION digital copies that Samsung pre-purchased to give away now count as "sales", thus making MCHG the first album to debut as a Platinum-selling album.

What do you think of the change?
I think it no longer matters … gold platinum selling albums or whatever. is it any good? just because i get the album for free doesn't make it good music.
My thought is that Samsung buying a million copies and giving them away lowers my expectation for the music.
I mean, Jay-Z has shown he has plenty of talent and the right connections to make it in the business, but so did Tom Petty when he dropped Into The Great Wide Open, which had lyrics SO BAD that I maintain to this day that Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne were trolling us with "Watch this, they'll eat this shit up" deliberately-bad songs.
"He met a girl out there with a tattoo too."
REALLY?
Naturally, the RIAA is happy to make changes when it makes them look good. This is why I can't listen to corporate music anymore.
