Growth in positions with the title "social media manager" slowed to 50% in the past year, a dramatic decline from recent years, when triple (and even quadruple) digit growth was commonplace.
Because that couldn't possibly have anything to do with the natural progression of growth of disruptive or new technologies?
Take as an example, 1000 sample companies.
2009 – 2 have Social Media Managers – Very early adopters.
2010 – 21 have Social Media Managers – "Quadruple Digit" (1050%) growth.
2011 – 262 have Social Media Managers – "Quadruple Digit" (1150%) growth.
2012 – 590 have Social Media Managers – "Triple Digit" (125%) growth.
2013 – 960 have Social Media Managers – "Double Digit" (62.5%) Growth
"OH NOES, GROWTH IN POSITIONS SLOWS 50%!!! THE SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER IS DEAD!"

The social media manager is dead. Long live social media. – Fortune Management
Behind the marked decline in social media managers is a sea change in the way that social media itself is used within organizations.
Math. It is a difficult concept.
Its all about the attention grabing headlines. Blank is dead!
