This is actually pretty common. Just because it's legal doesn't mean businesses and places of work want you to do in on their premises. They've barely gotten the excuse to ban tobacco smoke and now people think they can bring in something else just because it's legal.
I agree – if there is a no smoking sign up I would think that would automatically cover Marijuana – but no – people use the "medical" excuse. I don't have a problem with legalizing it – I have a problem with the subculture that it has created.
