It's going to be a wild (and educational) ride. I'm pretty excited, and most of my friends and coworkers are watching to see how it goes, since I've been espousing a "Don't wait. Do it TODAY. There is no tomorrow." attitude for a year or more.
The real kick in the pants for me were 3 emails that I've gotten at work in the last 6 months. All three announced the post-retirement passing of some former City of Denver employee or another.
All three of them were in their mid-50's to early 60's, and all three had been retired less than 18 months.
Do. Not. Wait. For. Retirement.
Do it today.
