rFactor Stock Cars at Dover

The Rfactor/Stock Car Evolution race went really well. 110 laps at Dover Speedway. I placed 9th out of 20 who qualified, and 18 who raced.

It’s kind of cool racing for points – no matter how far behind you are, you just keep driving, knowing that there are people who will screw up, or drive too hard and break their car, or get frustrated, or *something*…and they’ll quit before you do, and you’ll move up a place in the standings, and that’s 3 or 5 more points for you. If you’re lucky, a yellow will come out, and everyone in front of you will go into the pits for tires – and that will allow you to stay out and lead a lap, which gives you 5 bonus points…and you inch up in the standings…and that’s exactly what I did.

Rfactor’s physics model is *outstanding*. I drove the car *way* too hard for *way* too long, and basically cooked my right front tire, and it showed in how the car handled. It was a downward spiral – the blistered tire made it hard to turn, which meant I had to turn harder, which meant that the tire blistered more, which made it harder to turn…

The coolest bit was the GPCOS League tracking software – I had results posted within 30 minutes post-race, and that was the first time I’d ever gone through the process, so I had to delete the race and repost it 3 times. Now that I’m familiar with it, I should be able to have results posted within 5 minutes of the end of the race.

Very very cool stuff.
