  1. I am having almost none of those problems. As a new player, I have been able to create two fields, destroy several enemy portals, and claim probably 12 portals to my name.yes drop rates are poor. Being on a college campus certainly helps. The main issue I have is with GPS accuracy but that could just be my device. I think that Niantic will be releasing quite a few portals in the coming weeks so hold out!

  2. Being on a College Campus is very much like being downtown, however, when it comes to Portal Density.

Compare on the Ingress Intel Map at the "L1-L8 Portals shown" scale:
"Marine Street, Boulder, CO" (On the CU Boulder Campus. 20 mi/30 minutes drive each way)

"East Drive, Fort Collins, CO" (On the Colorado State Campus. 53 miles/1 hour drive each way.)

"Cleveland Place, Denver, CO" (Downtown Denver – 15 miles/25 minutes, minimum $5 to park)

Now for some suburbia to compare with:
"Irma Drive, Denver, CO" (unique name near where I live)

"Mayfair Street, Lone Tree, CO" (unique name near where we started the day yesterday)

"E. Ohio Place, Aurora, CO" (A random place in the Eastern Suburbs of Denver)

"W. Colorado Place, Lakewood, CO" (A random place in the western suburbs of Denver)

I have to ask: Were you not already on a College Campus, how willing would you be to travel an hour or more round trip to participate?

  3. The short answer is that If I can't reach it by bicycle, I would most likely not be playing. The game works well for me because I can work portal farming into my daily bicycle commute and a bit during lunch. Obviously i have a bit of an advantage and I feel for you there. I am hoping that portal density increases in area such as yours so that the game can become more widely adopted. Good luck!

  4. I'm not going to delete my account, or even the app… I'm taking a wait and see attitude. Clearly the makers are invested in having it be successful, so I want to see what they bring to the table over the next 2 weeks…or more.

Already there are Enlightenment players who have hit Level 6. At this point, whatever those folks who are L6 want, they get. End of discussion.

I don't believe that will remain the case, however.

  5. I totally agree with you regarding the two aspects of gameplay (net/outside).
Speaking from the opposite viewpoint (I quickly got to lvl 5, 42 portals & in a dominant position in my city, though outnumbered) I stopped actively playing almost a week ago.
Attacking/defending are too easy & the whole game (outside) then becomes incredibly one-dimensional & laborious. So, on Saturday night I totally stopped playing.
