Note: This is a personal blog, and the only use of any of this is for me to go, "huh, Cool." on the rare occasion I think to go look at any of this stuff and realize that (based on the analytics) about 3 people per month still care what the internal dimensions of a 10 year old MINI Cooper S Clubman are...

It's probably a good thing I accidentally lost my original reply to this, because it was REALLY long.
Basically, I really dislike a lot of this guy's post. I hate that whole "NaNoWriMo isn't real writing" ivory tower attitude. It's gross. Get over yourself, blog writer guy.
The only points I really agree with are things that aren't NaNo's fault- the flood of submissions publishers get in December and the scammers are both problems. But NaNo tells people to revise and that what they're writing is a super rough draft, and they can't stop people from submitting if they're really determined to make fools of themselves. They also warn against scammers and take down every post they see on the forums that links to a scammer, but again, there's not a lot they can really do if someone gets scammed off-site. They are a small operation.
(The one "full disclosure" exception is one of the sponsors this year, who is apparently blacklisted, like, everywhere. They signed the deal before anyone was able to warn them. I think things are happening behind the curtain regarding that.)
But then the guy gets back on his "let me define ~~~~real writing~~~~ for you" high horse and I just want to punch him. Then he ends with "I know lots of NaNo sheep will disagree with me…" which is just a handy way of blowing off any dissenting opinions, which is always a winning move.
Also he puts two spaces after every sentence. Which is dumb. So he's a dummy. Therefore I win.
I couldn't get through this article because he spends literally five paragraphs at a time saying the word 'no' in horrendously unfunny ways. He seriously managed to spend ten paragraphs not saying a single thing. This person is not a writer. His style is awful. It is virtually nonexistent.
