Old tires, dark, wet road, newbie motorcycle rider = Tired bike

Tired bikes take unexpected naps. At 5 mph.
I was lucky. Huge bruise on my hip (that I don't have pictures of) and this little smidgen of road rash through the gloves on the back of one knuckle (it's the little raised area in the middle of the arrows. Yeah, I know…)

  1. No limping, even.
Took the next day off work, went to see the doc, who sent me for xrays. Hardly any swelling even.
The biggest pain was to my wallet. $800 after insurance.

    This is "night of"

This is the bike post crash.

Fortunately, I'm not COMPLETELY stupid. This is the bike BEFORE the crash. =)

  2. These things are par for the course. It's getting knocked around like this that will save your ass later. I've still got the scar on my right hip from my first (and only) minor bike crash. I walked away from it, but could see the tip of my Iliac crest through the wound, and my elbow looked like a cheese pizza. Bike only needed a foot peg, clutch lever and mirror replaced. =) Needless to say learned my lesson that day.

Glad you're OK, hope it doesn't put you off!

  3. Hell no!
    That was in Mid-October 2009.
This was my ride at the MSF BRC, May 15-ish 2010

I then flew (on a one way ticket!) to DFW and picked this up from an internet friend, sight unseen, at 11pm, and rode it back to Denver 2 weeks later.

That October, I traded the KLR even-steven for the DRZ, which looked like this when I got it:

And now looks like this, thanks to my friend in Arizona having the sad misfortune of having had pins put in her wrist prior to parting out her DRZ…
