As someone who has a round face and isn't stick thin, I appreciate Merida's original appearance.
The new look is kinda evil looking and not at all what you would think a tom boy irish girl would look like. Brave was a great movie with great strong characters. She was not a Disney princess and should not be in the same rhelm as the other air headed characters they have. Make a new roster of real fully developed characters not more blank slates that you turn into barbies.
Wait, so an animated character was drawn differently? That's news?
It is if you've ever raised a little girl.
Or dated someone who was once a little girl.
Or know someone who once was a little girl.
It's more so news due to the objection. If no one objected, that 'article' would never have been written.
People are objecting, and rightfully so. Little girls are constantly bombarded with this 'perfect' image from different sources of media.
You need to be thin to be pretty. You need to act a certain way to be accepted. All that kind of garbage. It's like the 40s, but sluttier and more degrading.
My point with animated characters is that their look is constantly changing. Check original images of Mickey Mouse versus current ones.
As to instilling values in little girls, I don't look to TV or movies. Find good real life role models because there will always be more bad examples on TV than good ones.
