When you look over your shoulder (and you ARE looking over your shoulder, RIGHT?) visualize a motorcycle, not a car.
I can't tell you how many people have done a head check, looked right at me, then have merged over anyway because they were visualizing checking for a car, not a motorcycle, and when their brain didn't see a car, it gave the all clear…

Should do all this anyways.

I agree, but I have been sitting on making a blog about bikes for a long time
I have rode a LOT in my life, love bikes, and have even done X Canada with friends by Motor bike when I was young – now that said…
There are a LOT of bikers causing their own distress out there, weaving between cars, riding tandem, breaking rules and causing more havoc, than the cars around them – it is time that bikers spend more time policing themselves and the idiots that make it bad for them than the few who find it hard to share the road with them
As it would be easier to share the road with smaller vehicles, if they all shared the rules with us 🙂 Peace brother
YES.
I still remember one time, where I almost didn't look over my shoulder because I was certain there was nobody… the last time I had checked, nobody had been there, I told myself: Always look! – So, I looked. And there was a motorcycle.
"Shocked" is what my reaction was at that point.
And yeah, I always do look over my shoulder, especially after that incident. It showed me once again how long a few seconds can be if there's somebody fast approaching (especially on German Autobahnen where there's no speed limit ^^).
I can't begin to count how many of said zombie mergers have gotten a love tap of my boot. Get's their attention quick.
Thanks for plussing my comment – as until there is a "Comraderie" instead of this
"Zombie Mergers have gotten a love tap of my boot"
Response – there will continue to grow a larger hatred between the 2 groups – it is called "Mutually sharing the road"
I when I ride, would NEVER kick a car for making a mistake – mistakes are mistakes – yes, it can be a very dangerous one, but we all make them, driving – ALL OF US!!!
And to further exacerbate by anger Road Rage – doesn't help, now does it? 🙂 Peace
Woah. Settle down Beavis.
Can't honestly say I've ever seen hatred towards motorcycles in my 250K+ miles in the saddle. When my life's on the line and a few tons are squeezing me into a barricade, I will do whatever is necessary to get the drivers attention.
End of discussion. Period.
+Jeff Karpinski You are getting blocked, end of discussion period, my name isn't BEAVIS – and I won't call you the obvious you deserve, cause I don't stoop to your level
Buhbye!
+Jeff Karpinski You aren't worth a block, I have only used this on 2 people, but you, well you aren't worth much, but…
You are worth this… (only)…
Billy Madison – Best insult ever! I award you no points
WTH +Gord Birch? just block and move on with your life.
That's interesting, as I don't visualize anything when I check lanes before turning.
I look for an object (any object) before moving into a lane. I always see the cyclists (motorcyclists as well), but this might be because I grew up riding on a motorcycle with my father, and I just expect there to be the possibility of a motorcycle or bicycle present.
