TL;DR – in many species, a female mating with multiple males (even when there is no advantage to do so) tends toward having more male offspring, who can reproduce with less "cost", (as they can mate many times and ALL the offspring will carry their genes) meaning that a female who is promiscuous will have more grandchildren carrying her genes.
