Leaving DIA, Pena Boulevard was a MESS. If I got over 30 mph, I started sliding all over the place. Snow blowing sideways across the road. I'd scraped 1/8" of ice off my windows earlier.
Crossing the overpass at Jackson Gap, I see two cop cars coming up the onramp at a good clip, pull out into traffic (middle lane), then slow way down. "Great, an accident. Totally predictable."
Then two 15 passenger vans pull onto Pena into the RH lane and blow past the cops (considering the conditions – they were probably going 45).
I considered following them, and a split second before I just went for it, I noticed a Greyhound-sized bus coming up the on ramp.
I should have been a worse driver, failed to do an actual head check (vs. just using my iced over mirrors) because I wouldn't have seen that bus until he slammed on the brakes on that icy, shitty slippery road…
…which would have fucked the other 5 buses flying up the onramp in tight formation right in the ass. Also the 2 Penske trucks, the limo, the other two 15 passenger vans, and the two State Troopers that were bringing up the rear of the Baltimore Ravens convoy…
If the Broncos lose, it's possibly only because I have an overactive sense of self preservation…
